This course goes above and beyond the standard American Red Cross presentation. As parents of a child with severe food allergies, we understand firsthand the confusion and misinformation that often surrounds the topic of allergies, and how correct and up-to-date information can save lives. In this course, you will learn the signs, symptoms, and treatment of a severe allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis. It provides an overview of common allergens, uncommon allergens, unintentional exposures, and cross-contamination risk. Finally, students will learn how to administer epinephrine using an auto-injector device, and see demonstrations of several different brands/types of auto-injectors that are currently on the market.

Prerequisites:  Students must be able to demonstrate understanding of class concepts, and physically perform the skills presented.

Course Length: 30 minutes.

Certification: After successful completion of the class, students will receive an American Red Cross Epinephrine Auto-Injector Certification that is valid for two years. Certificates are digital (PDF files) and can be printed, saved, or emailed.

Standards: This class meets OSHA and workplace safety requirements.

Continuing Education Units: Continuing Education Units are available for this course. Please contact us for more information.
